From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot was in touch with the geu tower, cleared to land on a 1/2-3/4 mile final for runway 01, geu. The pilot reported that he did not think he was going to make the runway. The pilot initiated an off airport landing in a soft, flat, plowed, field, with a ground roll of approximately 350' and flipped over causing substantial damage to the cockpit. Subsequent interviews with the PIC indicated that the engine & propeller stopped when the throttle was closed. The fuel tank indicated 14 gals., oil level appeared normal. Post crash engine inspection and test run discovered the main fuel flow, adjustable carburetor jet, beyond the mosler motors operation manual recommended setting. Whether this main jet was adjusted by someone or changed due to engine vibration could not be determined. During the engine test run, stoppage at the idle throttle position was consistent with what the pilot reported on the day of the accident. Jet adjustment to the factory recommended initial setting allowed the engine to idle at what appeared to be a normal RPM without stoppage.

As the FAA filed it
