From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

(-23) While in cruise, the engine began running rough. Within a few minutes, the pilot noticed oil drops developing on the windshield, and the engine quit. Unable to make it back to the Suffolk airport, (origin) the pilot attempted to put the aircraft down in a nearby field and hit the trees just at the approaching edge of the field. The aircraft came to rest on the ground pointing in the opposite direction of flight. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the wings, fuselage, prop, landing gear and stabilizers.
