From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) privacy data omitted Mr. Keith r. latham was pilot in command and conducting an after maintenance test flight at Grundy, VA, where the aircraft had recently had maintenance. The mechanic/ia who performed the maintenance was a passenger on this flight. Due to gusty wind conditions, the pilot maintained a higher than normal approach speed, but was unable to stop on the runway and ran off the end of runway 22. The aircraft went down an embankment into a small ravine of rough terrain, causing the nose gear to collapse.
