What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Pilot departed lantana airpark (lna) to conduct touch and go landings on lake okeechobee. He departed the lake at about 16:00 for (lna), the engine did not seem to be running properly, although he said nothing specific was causing a problem. He landed at bell Glade (X10), and checked the plane and engine. The pilot could not find anything wrong or out of the ordinary. He then departed (X10) for (lna). Five minutes after departure the cockpit started to fill with smoke. He decided to land immediately on gator blvd, which is about 3 miles east of bell Glade. He turned electrical power off and shut the engine down, and dead sticked the aircraft onto the road. He was not able to fully extend the gear landed on the keel with minimal damage. Further inspection by maintenance reviled that a coolant hose was leaking at the engine causing steam, not smoke. (Called privacy data omitted NTSB and left him a voice mail that no fire occurred on N77MT it was steam from coolent system). The owner had moved the aircraft to the amphibian repair facility in sebring, Florida, an authorized dealer for searay aircraft.
