From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On may 21, 2004, the pilot in command of N2711Y, was conducting a daytime VFR cross country flight from detroit willow run airport to Marion, Ohio (mnn). After obtaining an airport advisory informing him the winds were blowing from 150 degrees at 10 knots, he chose to land on runway 25. The pilot stated in his interview, he experienced a tailwind on final, which caused him to execute a go-around. The pilot was again advised of the wind direction and speed by the airport operator as being 160 at 9 knots, gusting to 18 KTS. The pilot then reports he will land on runway 07. While attempting to land the aircraft, the pilot touches down on the last 1500 ft. of runway 07, he is thus unable to stop the aircraft before running off the end of the runway and 200 ft. into a muddy field. privacy data omitted There were no injuries, damage to the aircraft or postflight fire.
