From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft was operating at 11,500 feet MSL and initiated a descent to pattern altitude at N94. During descent power was at 15" manifold pressure and carb heat was not applied until halfway through the descent. Aircraft was in the traffic pattern on downwind leg. When turning the base leg the pilot applied power and the engine stopped operating. The pilot determined that he would not be able to make the runway and elected to land in a field short of the runway. Emergency landing was successful and there were no injuries or damage to the aircraft. Aircraft was towed to the airport and inspected. Aircraft was started and operated normally.
