From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Upon rollout after landing on runway 21 at put-n-bay, Ohio (3W2), the nose landing gear piston, piston rod, fork assembly, and wheel assembly separated from the nose gear upper strut cylinder tube assembly. The nose wheel assembly tucked under the fuselage causing the aircraft propeller to strike the ground four (4) times before the upper strut cylinder assembly skidded along the runway pavement for approximately 146 feet grinding down the lower forward edge of the strut cylinder tube assembly. The propeller tips curled back, the engine exhaust scraped along the pavement and the nose wheel assembly punctured the fuselage under side approximately 20 inches aft of the engine firewall. The safety wire for the nut that retains the taxi spring assembly that fits over the piston rod assembly was broken thus allowing the nut to back off. The scissor link assemblies were intact, but the bottom link had rotated 90 degrees.

As the FAA filed it
