From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 07/03/2004 an avid mark iv, N3006M, operated by michael e. burt, landed approximately 20 feet short of a grass runway. The experimental aircraft was operating under 14CFR91 at the time in the 38th hour of its 40 hour "phase I" limitations for experimental aircraft. The aircraft was being flight tested at maximum gross weight. In the pilot's attempt to land at his home field, the aircraft developed an excessive sink rate for which the pilot failed to compensate. The damage to the aircraft appears to be repairable. This incident is considered closed.
