From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Student pilot attempted landing on runway 30 at Altoona-Blair County Airport after performing solo training flight. Pilot stated that he had some crosswind at 350 degrees of 11 knots. Pilot stated that at touch down, the aircraft ballooned up and was drifting to the left side of the runway. Pilot stated that he hit the right rudder to bring him back, but accidentally hit the right brake. Aircraft hit the runway hard and went to the right, crossing the runway. Pilot stated that he tried to compensate, but the right wingtip was dipping down and he was afraid that he was going to hit the ground with the wing. Pilot leveled the airplane and went into the grass, hitting the taxiway lights and the precision approach path indicator power box with the leading edge of the right wing, approximately 6 feet outboard from the fuselage. Right wing flap had minor buckling impact damage at center of flap. Left wing had minor impact damage approximately 1 foot inboard from leading edge and 2 feet outboard from fuselage.
