From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot had received a weather briefing approximately 30 minutes before departure and was aware that IFR conditions were reported to be present during the initial portion of his flight. The aircraft departed from ddc and at some point prior to impacting the ground, entered IMC flight conditions. Structural failure occurred at some point prior to the aircraft's descent from the clouds. Evidence indicates that an in-flight fire did occur but it is unknown if the fire was present prior to the in-flight breakup. At the time of this report, the pilot did not suffer from any known disqualifying medical conditions.
