From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Uala flight yvr-ord diverted to seattle-tacoma airport because of a flight control vibration. The aircraft landed without incident. Inspection of the aircraft revealed damage to the trailing edge wedge (aluminum & honeycomb) of the #6 slat, additional damage was done to the top of the wing behind #6 slate (glass fabric honeycomb). A 8"-18" piece of the trailing edge wedge had broken away. The wing panels had a 8" span wise crack and a 6" hole which had the honeycomb core missing. The movement of the slat had made heavy rub marks on the wing skin. The top of the slat showed evidence of disbond of the aluminum skin from the honeycomb core. United airlines maintenance records indicate #6 slat was installed on 07-2003. Unable to determine if the installed slat was new or had been repaired. Injury summary not known by ASI.
