From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) An amateur-shot video tape of the accident showed an overrotation of the aircraft during the ground roll caused a 9-foot tail-tiedown drag mark which slowed the ground roll with approximately 750 feet of grass runway remaining. The pilot continued the takeoff attempt, veered right while barely airborne and clipped his right wing on a parked Cessna 170. The Piper then cartwheeled 180 degrees, hitting the propeller, then sliding backwards to a rest. The right wing was partially detached causing a fuel leak. A witness was able to turn off the master switch and ignition. The pilot and three passengers were removed from the aircraft.
