From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot stated he unintentionally took off with his fuel selector on the header tank which contained approximately 4 gal. Of fuel instead of the main tanks. The engine quit after approximately 0.5 hrs of flight and the pilot was unable to restart the engine after switching to the main tank. He then intentionally executed an emergency landing in a farm field with the landing gear in the retracted position. The aircraft sustained only minor damage during the landing. On scene investigation indicated the header tank did not contain fuel.
