From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Experimental aircraft easy rider N87EZ piloted by privacy data omitted was finishing an act during which the wheels and false tail are removed and the engine shutdown in flight. N87EZ, controlled by weight shift, was turning from downwind to left base at approximately 150 feet when the aircraft entered a stall spin. The spin was not recovered and the aircraft impacted the ground in the grass on the west side of the approach end to runway 23 in a nearly level attitude. The pilot sustained non-fatal injuries, there was no one else on board. Damage to the aircraft cockpit area was substantial, however, the wings appeared undamaged.
