From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Hawaiian airlines flight 592, a Boeing 717 aircraft, was cleared by ATC to enter the inter-island ramp on taxiway lima. Upon leaving taxiway alpha, lima and golf are in a non-movement area for ATC. The normal entrance to the inter-island ramp is taxiway golf. Aircraft exiting the inter-island ramp normally use taxiway lima which is parallel to golf. Golf was blocked by an aloha B-737 which was waiting for a gate. An hawaiian airlines baggage tug was traveling on a roadway which leads between the international ramp and the inter-island ramp. The tug was towing several carts with loaded cargo containers. The tug driver stopped just prior to taxiway golf because of the aloha 737. The aloha 737 crew motioned the tug driver to pass in front. The tug driver was initially hesitant but the aloha crew motioned him again and he proceeded across taxiway golf. The crew of the aloha jet and passengers on board the inbound hawaiian jet observed the tug driver looking continously to his right (the normal direction for outbound aircraft from the inter-island ramp). The tug collided with the inbound hawaiian jet at the intersection of taxiway lima and the roadway.

As the FAA filed it
