From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot departed on a local pleasure flight from sbs on runway 32 at approximately 12:30 MST. On climb out a turn to the southwest was initiated. At about 3 miles from the airport and approximately 500 feet AGL the power was reduced from 2,600 RPM to 2,400 RPM. At the time the power change was initiated the engine went to idle. The pilot then proceeded to pull carburetor heat on, mixture rich, switch fuel tanks and check magnetos. The attempts to restore power failed and a right turn was initiated in an attempt to land in a open area. Upon landing touchdown and rolling out on unpacked snow the landing gear hit obstructions skidded to the left and nosed over stopping upside down. Damage to the aircraft was substantial to include cracked wing spars and engine firewall, buckled engine truss, broken landing gear cross-member, bent rudder and right aileron.

As the FAA filed it
