From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 12/24/2004 aircraft N25UP departed ADS enroute to txk. On climbout noted marginal climb performance. After leaning out, noticed an uncommanded, smooth increase in RPM to 3500. Unresponsive to prop control, reduced throttle with a violent shaking of aircraft and smoke coming from engine cowl. Assumed fire, and called mayday. Vectored to Rockwall airport. Could not make Rockwall, and landed in a field. Inspection of the aircraft indicated that the number 2 rod failed, came through the crankcase, and knocked the l/h magneto off mount. Engine was shut down prior to landing. Landing gear and flaps were not lowered. The aircraft landed in a muddy snow covered field, with minor damage to the aircraft. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
