(-23) CFI was instructing autorotations 1/18/05 at gpt. On second attempt the entry and glide were good, the student had throttle closed rather than letting the governor run RPM up to 104 percent as normal, upon recovery. A higher than normal flare (10 ft) was completed without power and the CFI took the controls and brought the helicopter to the ground. A hard landing resulted causing substantial damage to the skids, tail boom and fuselage.
