From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot privacy data omitted and his wife privacy data omitted departed chino airport chino, CA on February 4, 2005 with an intended destination of French Valley Airport in Murrieta, CA. Upon arrival the pilot privacy data omitted stated he entered the pattern and performed a normal approach for runway 36, on the final leg he experienced a wind gust/shift which caused the aircraft to immediately and unexpectedly descend. French Valley Airport is under construction, and 500 feet of the existing runway 36 is closed. The asphalt surface had been removed, and this created a lip between the dirt and the pavement. The pilot privacy data omitted stated the aircraft landed short in the construction area, and hit the pavement edge. The impact collapsed the right main landing gear, and the aircraft came to rest in the grass, on the right hand side of the runway. The pilot privacy data omitted and his wife the sole occupants were not injured, but the aircraft received substantial damage.
