From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On February 6, 2005 a student pilot was doing a cross-country flight from Kahului to hana, he landed in hana and then departed hana and was starting to climb to 2500 ft. as he climbed through 2,200 ft the engine started to run rough and the cowling began to vibrate. The student pilot verified the fuel lever was in the on position and his throttle was at full power. He did checks on the engine but it continued to run rough, then he notified the maui tower that he was experiencing engine troubles, he looked for a field along the coast where he could land the aircraft. He broadcast that he would be landing in a field about 1 mile east of wailua point, he set up for landing, on his base turn the engine stopped producing power. On final approach he was high, landed the last 1/5 of the field, the aircraft bounced then touched down again at a fence by the tree line of the field.
