From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot was flying his experimental aircraft in phase 1 of his flight test plan. He had flown approximately 4.9 hrs. He was flying east of tki by lake levon. He started losing power gradually, and immediately turned back to the airport. He went through his emergency procedures. Notifed the tower that he would be returning. He doesn't believe he declared an emergency. The tower asked if he would made the runway, and he indicated that he would. When he realized that he would not, he notified the tower that he would be landing in the field short of the runway. The tower dispatched fire and rescue. There were no injuries, and the only aircraft damage was to the main gear fairings which had some delamination.
