From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) During a simulated emergency landing to runway 03 at the Sussex Airport (fwn) in Sussex, NJ, the right main landing gear of the aircraft struck wires on a utility pole that stood approximately 40 feet in the air, and approximately 1,000 from the approach end of the runway. The aircraft nose pitched down, and yawed to the right. As the pilot in the left seat attempted to recover using left aileron, and rudder, the left wing struck a small shrub type tree that stood approximately 15 feet high. The aircraft's left wing struck a taxiway, and scraped along the ground for approximately 150 feet, eventually striking the nose and propeller, and turning 180 degrees from it's flight path. As the aircraft settled while sliding backwards in soft earth, the left wing twisted in a clockwise direction (facing the aircraft from the left side) causing the bottom of the wing to rotate with the landing gear facing up. Both pilots suffered minor injuries, and the weather was VFR with light and variable winds.

As the FAA filed it
