From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated that he called fca tower on a 3 1/2 mile left base to runway 2 at Glacier Park International he lowered the landing gear. Another aircraft was at the out marker inbound. The pilot assumed he would be #2 to land, but the tower cleared him to land. He looked to confirm that he had a green light. It was at that time he saw smoke from around the trim wheel followed by fire. He stated that the cabin filled with smoke and he made an attempt to get to the runway. He claimed that events after that were not real clear.
