From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft in cruise flight nearing Tillamook Airport when engine failed, pilot performed emergency landing on highway, no damage to airframe, and no damage to other property. Aircraft moved off highway after incident to free up traffic. Teardown of engine revealed broken camshaft lifters, and excessive wear on a piston pin thrust plug. At some point previous to this flight the engine had likely been overspeeded, causing connecting rod parts to be displaced. Excessive wear on piston plug contributed to lifter failure. Engine had 1500 hours since major overhaul in 1990.
