From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N86866, a Bellanca cruisair, entered downwind at Portland International Airport. Cleared to land on downwind, the pilot lowered his landing gear and checked his gear down. He turned base, final and made a second gear check. After touchdown on runway 28R, while slowing on rollout, the right gear started to retract. The right wingtip contacted the runway and the aircraft came to rest perpendicular to the runway alignment. Minor damage to the tip of the wing, aileron, and flap. Minor damage to the propeller. Why the right gear retracted remains a mystery at this time. The report will be amended if the cause is found.
