From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot privacy data omitted was enroute from syracuse NY and attempting to land his personal aircraft a 2001 husky A1-B at the Lake Placid new york airport (lkp). Strong crosswinds caused the pilot to abort two attempts at landing. On the third attempt, as the aircraft touched down, a sudden wind shift caused the aircraft to swerve and the pilot subsequently lost control and the aircraft came to rest inverted. The vertical stabilizer and rudder sustained damage as did the propeller and spinner. This investigation is closed.
