From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On August 25, 2005, at 1040 hrs local, aircraft N2245A, a Piper turbo lance, PA-32RT-300T, landed long and ran off the end of the runway at Las Animas, CO, resulting in minor damage to the aircraft. The pilot reported that the approach to landing was normal but the aircraft floated unexpectedly possibly due to thermal activity over the runway. On touchdown the brakes were ineffective. The aircraft rolled past the end of the runway and was nearly stopped when it crossed a ditch concealed in weeds. Impact with the ditch caused the nose and left landing gear to collapse resulting in damage to the lower cowl, left flap and the landing gear. There were no physical injuries to the pilot.
