What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On October 18, 2005 at approximately 1838 hours ATC received a report from ups flight 9610, with crew reporting smoke in cockpit while aircraft in taxi. The crew performed an emergency evacuation via escape slide from the L1 door at taxiway (n), Louisville international airport. The evacuation was completed with no injuries reported from the crew. United parcel service aircraft maintenance reported on logpage 414600 the left pack trip/left compressor exceeded temperature with left pack selected off. Using pneumatic pressure supplied via ground servicing cart, selecting left pack on drops compressor temperature and allows pack reset. It was determined by ups aircraft maintenance the left pack shut off and flow control valve bypassing when selected closed. The valve was removed and replaced iaw DC-8 mm 21-55-05-4. Performed engine run to duplicate flight crew conditions, no abnormal conditions noted. The left and right air conditioning packs operate normal, with no smoke noted. A maintenance history inquiry was performed to encompass a prior 30-DAY history for possible related maintenance event, with no repeated events.
