What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) On 11/01/2005 the pilot privacy data omitted was contacted by phone and asked why he did not report the incident. The pilot privacy data omitted stated that he knew that his friend, privacy data omitted had reported it, and that he thought that was sufficient. The pilot privacy data omitted saw the x's on the grass, but not on the runway. He said that he had never seen that before, but that he had been told by the person that he was meeting, privacy data omitted that the runway was "open." I asked him if he had filed a flight plan. He said that he had not. I asked him if he had checked with flight service at all, maybe about NOTAMS. He said that he gets his weather from the tv before his flights, and that he did not call flight service. I asked him why he landed at a closed airport. He said that privacy data omitted had told him that it was open and that it had been reported as open in the local newspaper. (Inspector comment from e-mail sent 01/12/06: there were no injuries on the incident. Pilot privacy data omitted was the sole occupant of the aircraft, and he is fine. It was just a hard landing).
