From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot reported that after reaching an altitude of 3000' feet he leveled for cruise and retarded the throttle and turned off the fuel pump. At that time the engine ran rough and lost power. The fuel pump was turned on and the throttle was not responsive. The pilot attempted to return to the airfield but was not able to and landed short in a clearing. Approximately thirty-five gallons of fuel was removed from the aircraft at the accident scene. The aircraft engine was inspected and appeared to be normal.
