From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On April 18, 2006, at approximately 0750 MST, N961WC, a Piper PA-28-181, with student pilot privacy data omitted performing as pilot-in-command lost control of the aircraft during an approach and landing on runway 03 at Scottsdale Municipal Airport (sdl). This was the first solo approach of the day. The pilot privacy data omitted was in closed traffic for runway 03. While attempting to land, the aircraft bounced and departed the left side of the runway between taxiways A-6 and A-7. The aircraft came to a stop just prior to entering the main ramp. The aircraft sustained minor damage to the right forward side of the elevator. A one to two inch dent was found on the leading edge. Maintenance has decided to re-skin the leading edge of the elevator. The lone occupant did not have any injuries.
