From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) During the interview the pilot privacy data omitted stated that after takeoff at about 700-800AGL the engine RPM started to fall off, he then advanced the throttle and turned the aircraft back to the Oxnard airport. The throttle movement had no effect on the engine RPM (that is all that the pilot privacy data omitted remembers). After the engine stopped the pilot privacy data omitted was enroute back to the Oxnard airport, when he landed in a sod field, continued to travel an additional 350 feet, all without braking, through a fence and onto a road where he impacted a passing vehicle.
