What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Nose gear collapsed upon landing after slight hop. The nose landing gear actuator upper attachment bracket was found to have failed along both bend radiuses. One failure surface had cupping marks on the metal where it failed, indicating a crack prior to failure. The Lancair 320FB, chapter 5, page 55, figure 5-40, specifies that the actuator attach bracket should be made from angle A1, but it does not specify the type or grade of A1. The failed brackets appeared to be cast and not an extrusion.
