From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On June 17th, 2006, N824AB Piper PA-31 departed jackson county airport enroute to Pontiac mi. The pilot also had his wife as a passenger in the right seat. After some discussions with his wife about her being capable of landing the aircraft in case the pilot ever became incapacitated, they decided to allow her to fly the aircraft on autopilot and land the aircraft. The aircraft was cleared for landing on 27L and flared approximately halfway down the runway at which time the pilot told her to pull the power back to land. She inadvertently pushed the power forward instead. The pilot then took over, pulled the power and attempted to stop the aircraft. The aircraft was unable to stop safely before reaching the end of the runway. The aircraft went about 10FT past the end of the runway causing the prop to contact a runway light causing damage to the right engine propeller. The aircraft was able to taxi out of this area on its own power and return to its main base at Michigan aviation without further incident. Note: the pilot is also a certified flight instructor.
