From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 7/7/2006 the pilot privacy data omitted was PIC as part of rental checkride in N6591J; CFI was privacy data omitted. They took off from ktmb to practice maneuvers and performed some touch and goes on runway 9 at X51. The CFI pulled power back to idle to simulate engine failure and notified pilot. On short final they were getting low and CFI asked pilot if they were going to make it, when pilot tried to turn to runway 18. As they were too low to recover, the aircraft stalled, right wing hit ground and skidded to a stop on runway 18.
