From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot in command of N620PA, who was also the pilot flying, arrived in the Kansas city, MO area in VMC conditions, operating under part 91. The crew had canceled their IFR flight plan with Kansas city international control tower (mci). The pilot stated that he had received radar vectors from mci to a left base for runway 27 at the East Kansas City Airport (3GV), Grain Valley, Missouri, which was the destination airport. While on final approach, the pilot stated that he was maintaining the proper approach path as indicated by the VASI system on runway 27. On short final the pilot stated that he may have started the flare too high, resulting in a loss of airspeed and excessive sink rate. The pilot was unable to arrest the sink rate before allowing the landing gear to strike a fence and touchdown short of the runway with a hard landing. This resulted in the main landing gear collapsing as the airplane rolled down the runway. Ato tech ops verified that the runway 27 VASI was within certifiable limits later that afternoon.

As the FAA filed it
