From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Took off from lansing, IL for dkb (calculated 30 minute ete) with 11 gal of fuel on board. Calculated 7.6 gph fuel burn. Fifteen minutes after take off lost the GPS signal. Decided to use pilotage to stay clear of the ord class bravo airspace. Deviated approximately 15 NM off course. While on final approach entered a side slip for 25 seconds for wind. The engine failed approximately one mile from the threshold. He selected full power on the throttle and turned on the electric fuel pump. Due to his low altitude on short final, decided to select flaps 35 and land in a bean field one half mile from the runway.
