From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The instructor pilot and student were practicing a simulated emergency approach and landing in N427AB at the Lawrence Municipal Airport, Lawrence, Kansas (lwc). The instructor reduced the throttle to idle on downwind leg to runway 15. As the airplane entered the flare on runway 15, a witness observed the landing gear retracting. The instructor heard a scraping sound and instructed the student to apply power and go around. The student applied power and entered a climb before the airplane could settle to the runway. An inspection of the airplane revealed damage to the propeller and radar pod. Also noted were paint scrapes on the right wing tip, right underside of the elevator, and main landing gear wheels.
