From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N698BS was on takeoff roll with the canopy open, and at the point of departure the pilot attempted to close the canopy and inadvertently pushed the control stick forward causing the airplane to nose down and contact the runway hard enough to bend the nose landing gear and allow the propeller to strike the ground. Take off was not aborted and normal climb out was accomplished to approximately 1800 feet altitude. Pilot "cycled" propeller and decided to continue to destination airport, independence, OR. Landing at independence airport (7S5) was made without further incident.

As the FAA filed it
