From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated the aircraft encountered 1/2 to 1 inch of rime ice at 12,000 MSL. He requested a higher altitude and during climb to 14,000 MSL the engine coughed once and within 5 to 10 seconds it quit at approximately 13,400 MSL. Pilot established a glide to nearest airport (Delta, UT). During descent into VFR conditions he attempted engine restart with no success. The aircraft crossed over the top of Delta airport and while maneuvering to land the aircraft sank more than planned causing it to land prior to airport property. During deceleration the aircraft struck a fence with a tensioning cable that caught the nose gear causing the aircraft to flip upside down as it stopped.

As the FAA filed it
