From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The aircraft was landing at Ames Municipal Airport. The pilot setup to land on runway 31. He noted that the nose gear safe light had not illuminated so he cycled the landing gear. The nose gear safe light was still not illuminated. He then executed a soft field landing; as the nose settled, the nose landing gear collapsed. Maintenance personnel discovered that pin p/n 1280209-1 had failed, preventing the nose landing gear from coming all the way down. Note: Cessna has a redesigned part that requires some modifications. Maintenance personnel stated that they have completed a malfunction or defect report and forwarded it to the FSDO.
