From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) A balloon on a transcontinental world record attempt made a planned landing near the Crete municipal airport, Crete, Nebraska. The winds were very strong, 45 knots during the descent and about 30 knots during the touchdown. The aeronaut exeucted a high wind landing in a field. The wind dragged the balloon and the gondola, tipped over at the top of a hill and rolled down the other side. There was no damage to the balloon or injuries to the aeronaut or to his one passenger.
