From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) A Cirrus SR20 registration N651BS, s/n 1711 lost #1 nav/com on a 2 mile final approach to reynolds field in Jackson Michigan (jxn). The PIC switched to nav/com #2, smelled smoke then declared an emergency and landed on runway 24 without incident. Upon inspection of the aircraft with FAA inspectors and western Michigan university maintenance personnel, the component that failed appeared to be a "tvs suppressor" located in the circuit breaker panel. There was evidence of solder splatter and minor smoke damage to a cosmetic panel, but no evidence of an actual fire.
