From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot of the single engine experimental aircraft applied power to arrest his descent on short final. He reports that he heard a loud "pop" followed by loss of engine power. The aircraft struck the grass runway with its left wing tip. It then skidded across the runway striking a small tree with the right wing tip. This opened the right fuel tank, spilling fuel. The aircraft then continued through the fence at the end of the runway and came to rest inverted. The pilot, who received minor injuries, was pulled from the wreckage by neighbors who heard the incident. The pilot also helped build the aircraft.
