(-23) The aircraft departed orange county airport (kmgj), its home base, at approximately 1730 EDT on June 24, 2007. Airport records indicate that the aircraft took 20.2 gallons of fuel prior to departure. Witnesses stated that, at approximately 1830 EDT, they observed the aircraft preforming aerobatic maneuvers. The aircraft initiated and completed one loop just above tree top level and entered what appeared to be a second loop. At the apex of the second loop, estimated by witnesses to be approximately 250 feet above the trees, 350 feet AGL, the aircraft appeared to enter a stall and then, out of control, descended vertically and impacted the ground on the west side of pufftown road, Wallkill, NY. Witnesses stated that the engine continued to run throughout the event. Both occupants, the pilot and passenger, were fatally injured in the crash. Evidence observed at the scene was consistent with a high speed vertical impact. The majority of the wreckage was in a vertical position with the engine and propeller buried approximately two to three feet in the hard packed earth. The pilot's log book was not available for inspection. Pilot's total hours current as of last medical on 11/22/2005.
