From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The flight instructor was conducting an introductory flight in the glider at the Skyhaven Airport (rcm), Warrensburg, MO. The instructor, who was manipulating the controls, entered the traffic pattern at 1,000 feet above ground level (AGL), for the purpose of landing on sod runway 18. While on base leg, the instructor executed a series of 360 degree turns to lose altitude. After the aircraft rolled out on final at approximately 80 feet AGL, the instructor stated that an updraft caused the aircraft to enter a steep bank to the right and pitch down. The instructor was able to recover approximately 10 feet AGL heading west bound toward a fence. The instructor pitched the aircraft up to climb over the fence then made a left turn back toward the runway. The aircraft was then too low and slow and heading for a second fence. As the instructor pitched up to avoid the second fence, he stalled the aircraft. The glider impacted the ground short of the runway.

As the FAA filed it
