What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) 08/19/2007 Airman arrived overhead 3N6 at twilight with low overcast. He states the engine lost power and attempted to restart. Engine continued to "sputter" while he tried to land off-site on adjacent speedway. Left wing caught raceway's chain link fence which contributed heavy damage to a/c as it came to rest pointed 180 degrees to approach path. Pilot & (1) pax egressed w/o injury. After interview & investigation, airman did not have certificates on his possession or demonstrate he was current. FSDO exercised 44709 action to inspect personal records and maintenance logbooks for currency. Fuel starvation is likely cause after filling "tip tanks" 30 min earlier with 30 gal. Tip tank switches were off and main tanks empty (very little fuel spill at site).
