From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated they were doing confined area training, and while hovering, the tail rotor struck a small tree. The aircraft began to shutter so the pilot immediately landed in the small field and shut down the engines due to the vibration. The landing was firm enough to set off the ELT (emergency locator transmitter), which was shut off by the pilots. The tail rotor blades were damaged and the bolts attaching the 90 degree gearbox were also damaged. No injuries were sustained. The confined area was a small meadow surrounded by trees and bushes. The grass and weeds were over 4 feet tall inside the meadow.
