From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot departed Olson field, (LL53) for the first test flight of his homebuilt/experimental aircraft. His first attempt at a landing was aborted due to being high and fast. On the second attempt, he purposely shallowed his approach so as to turn final at approximately 400 feet AGL and at a slower speed of 80 KTS. Turning final, he overshot the runway and while correcting, the aircraft began to shake and settled into the corn field. At no time did he add power or attempt a go-around. The aircraft contacted the top of the corn and impacted the ground in a flat, wings level attitude.
