From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On or about 15:10, September 30, 2007 the commercial rated pilot and a safety pilot, who holds an ATP rating, departed (pvg) portsmouth, Virginia in route to fkn Virginia under VFR. According to the pilot, all operations were normal until the aircraft was on a VOR approach to runway 09. At approximately 1000' MSL the aircraft experienced a complete engine failure over the final approach fix at approximately 16:00 hrs. At that time the ATP rated copilot took over the flight controls while the pilot attempted to restart the engine 3 times. The copilot crash landed the aircraft into a tree approximately one mile west of the airport in a marshy area. This accident is still under investigation.
